Kekuatan bagi sebuah negara itu di antaranya adalah penduduk. Istilah mayoritas dan minoritas Patani sudah pernah merasa kedua-duanya. Apabila kembali menelusuri pada abad ke 15 kegemilangan kerajaan Melayu Islam Patani itu, jelas bahwa mayoritasnya dikenal dengan kekuatan agama Islam, bahasa melayu yang sopan, bangsa melayu tersirat dihati, adat istiadat yang melestari serta jati diri yang sangat kuat. Kedaulatan ini amat populer bagi negara jiran dan lahirlah keinginan baginya untuk berkunjung dan berdagang di sana.
Setelah jatuhnya Patani di bawah kekuasaan Thailand, timbul upaya untuk melenyapkan identitas melayu Patani dengan beberapa misi, diantaranya adalah untuk menghancurkan agama Islam, memusnahkan bahasa ibunda, menghapuskan nilai-nilai kecintaan terhadap bangsa serta menghilangkan adat istiadat dan budaya. Dengan faktor inilah kemudian melalui beberapa kebijakan politik yang dilaksanakan olehnya, diantaranya adalah menetapkan undang-undang, politik asimiliasi, politik konstitusi, politik trasmigrasi dan yang dapat dilihat dengan terus terang adalah politik DOM (daerah operasi Militer). Lalu dengan berstatusnya dari mayoritas langsung diubah kepada minoritas. Politik itulah yang selalu dilaksanakan oleh pemerintah Thailand.
Dengan berkembangan zaman dan sokongan dari luar, kini Patani tidak dianggap lagi sebagai sebuah wilayah yang berkependudukan agama buddha, malah di negara luar apabila sebut saja dengan Patani langsung akan dijawab dengan sebuah wilayah yang ingin kepada kebebasan, keadilan dan kesejahteraan. Dengan bukti yang jelas terhadap kekuatan agama, busana pemakaian, bahasa tuturan dan jati diri yang sangat kuat. Itulah yang dianggap sebagai minoritas yang akan berkuasa menjadi mayoritas yang sejahtera.
